Nissan Sells 100 000 LEAFs Captures 48 Of Worldwide Market To Date

Inside EVs has a report on the progress of Nissans electric vehicle sales - Nissan Sells 100,000 LEAFs, Captures 48% Of Worldwide Market To Date.
This past weekend Nissan announced that after just more than 3 years on the market, the LEAF had reached the 100,000 vehicles sold level.

More impressive still is that InsideEVs calculated Nissan had only sold about 88,000 through the end of November, and the company themselves shortly thereafter announced reaching the 92,000 LEAF sold mark in early December - meaning the company has sold about 12,000 copies in the past two months worldwide.

Overall, Nissan has captured 48% of pure electric sales worldwide since 2010 according to the company.

New York City Bike Share Program Will Have 10 000 Bikes 600 Stations

EcoGeek has a post on New Yorks new bike share program - New York City Bike Share Program Will Have 10,000 Bikes, 600 Stations.
Last year, we heard that New York City was considering a huge bike sharing program and now its becoming a reality. New details have been released about the program and its just as big as had been hoped. There will be about 600 stations with 10,000 bikes and the program could be up and running by next summer.

The stations will be widespread, covering the Upper East and West sides all the way down to the tip of Manhattan and then across the East River into Brooklyn as far as Greenpoint and Crown Heights.

The city has chosen Alta Bike Share to install and operate the system. Alta operates bike share programs in Washington, D.C., Boston and Portland, but the New York system will dwarf those systems by a few thousand bikes, making it the largest in the country. Above is a video featuring the Capital Bikeshare program in D.C.

The program will allow for 24-hour, multi-day or annual subscriptions as well as shorter rentals charged by the half-hour. Monthly subscriptions will be cheaper than a monthly MetroCard.

US 200 000 GW of solar could be installed

PV Magazine has a look at the latest NREL study of solar power potential in the US - US: 200,000 GW of solar could be installed (via Cryptogon).
According to a new study released by NREL, the technical potential of photovoltaics and concentrating solar power (CSP) in the U.S. amounts to just under 200,000 GW, which could generate around 399,700 TWh of energy annually.

The U.S.-based National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) has published a new report – U.S. renewable Energy Technical Potentials: A GIS-Based Analysis – in which it says, technically, 154,864 of photovoltaics and 38,000 GW of CSP could be installed. This would mean, photovoltaics could generate around 483,600 terawatt hours (TWh) of energy annually, and CSP, 116,100. Refer to the table for a breakdown of the different solar technologies.

Overall, it believes rural utility-scale photovoltaics has more potential than any other renewable energy technology, due to the "relatively high power density, the absence of minimum resource threshold, and the availability of large swaths for development." Meanwhile, Texas is said to have the ability to account for around 14 percent of this 153 GW, or 280,600 TWh annual potential.

In terms of urban utility-scale photovoltaics, NREL says Texas and California have the highest estimated technical potential, due to both their strong solar resources and high populations. With significantly less estimated technical potential, it is thought that rooftop photovoltaics will be most successful in those states with higher population densities, like California.
