The best way to decide whether buying electric car is worth the money is to take a closer look at drawbacks and benefits of electric cars in comparison to traditional gasoline powered cars.
Electric cars benefits:
Electric cars are 100 percent emission-free. This means that there they do not emit greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change and air pollution like traditional cars do.
Excellent energy efficiency. If we compare the efficiency of electric and traditional cars we can see that the overall efficiency of an electric car is 48 percent, which is almost twice as much as compared to traditional gasoline cars that achieve efficiency of around 25%.
Traditional cars can catch fire or blow up if you crash into something due to the presence of gasoline while this isnt the case with electric cars. In this sense, electric cars are safer than traditional gasoline powered cars.
Compact electric vehicle |
Electric cars are more compact than traditional cars.
Electric cars have lot more affordable cost of recharge as compared to traditional cars (their recharge costs is 2 cents per mile compared with 12 cents a mile on gasoline).
Longer motor lifetime. The electric cars motor is estimated to last for 90 years, if you drive it fifty miles a day.
Lower maintenance as compared to traditional gasoline cars because electric car has five moving parts in its motor, compared to a gasoline car that has hundreds of parts in its internal combustion engine.
Electric cars drawbacks:
Very expensive batteries. The high price of batteries is the main reason why electric cars are still connected with relatively high costs.
The lack of noise coming from electric cars could sometimes be regarded as drawback because the lack of usual noise of an approaching vehicle poses a danger to blind, elderly and young children.
Relatively limited range and longer recharge times as compared to the relatively fast process of refueling a tank of a gasoline powered car.
Limited amount of charging stations across the country.
Problems with heating in colder climates. In colder climates cars require plenty of energy to heat the interior and defrost the windows. With gasoline gars the combustion process already answers this issue by transferring the waste heat from the engine. This however isnt the case with electric cars, where heating requires extra energy from the electric cars battery.
